Run Rampage
Jan 16, 2011
The venue for my second race of 2011 was Bagshot Army barracks, a military vehicle testing ground. This basically meant lots and lots of steep climbs followed by sharp, unforgiving descents, separated by muddy bogs, knee deep water and more killer hills. The first six kilometres of this 10km race were tough (and made tougher when I struggled to relocate one of my shoes that I managed to lose in the mud). The final four kilometres flattened out and I got in to a steady pace and made up some good ground, passing Iwan Thomas (ex-GB Olympic 400m runner). Coming in to the final 600m I thought I had done enough to keep ahead of him but he chased me down and beat me over the line by 3 seconds.
Very happy to finish 21st and again lots to build on for the next race.
This was the first race organised by the Run Rampage crew and I was hugely impressed by the course and organisation. I hope they do it again next year - I'll definitely be back for more!
