MTB Tour (pairs) - John O’Groats to Land’s End

June 2012 - WILD MTB: End to End off-road

Teaming up with Andy Sarling (ex-British Army) our next adventure is simple:

To travel the entire length of mainland Great Britain on mountain bikes, cross-country, fully unsupported in the fastest possible time.

Inspired by a desire to push ourselves in a new and exciting endurance event, and taking guidance from the Great Divide Race (a mountain bike race from Canada to Mexico), this is a self-designed challenge, which will see us carry all of our kit, source all our food, water & supplies, navigate, complete any bike maintenance and most importantly pedal (and push) our bikes from one end of Britain to the other, off-road.

How Far? - The route will be approximately 1200 miles (c. 1920km) with over 130,000ft of ascent.

Daily Routine - We are currently planning to ride 150 miles per day, with an aim of completing the entire route in eight days. A typical day will see us roll out of our bivy bags, liberally apply chamois cream and Vaseline before cycling around 15-16 hours per day. In amongst the hours upon hours of pedaling we will eat, resupply, filter water, pedal some more before collapsing back in to a bivy to get some much needed rest.

Follow our journey, as two newcomers to the world of mountain biking, as we prepare for an off-road mountain bike adventure.
