Who am I?

Welcome to my site and thank you for visiting…

Whether you are an aspiring adventurer, seasoned explorer or looking for fresh and challenging ideas I hope there is something of interest here.

The word ‘adventure’ often conjures up images of extreme challenges in exotic places but to me adventure can be anything that takes you away from the everyday and allows you to experience life.

In early 2010 I rowed across the Atlantic Ocean, climbed Kilimanjaro and ran a mountain marathon in the Arctic.

Since then I have continued to try new sports, challenges and races, pushing myself as much as possible. 2011 started with a series of trail races, the one and only Tough Guy, the London Marathon and a number of adventure races before setting off to complete the Tour du Mont Blanc. I also managed to squeeze in a couple of half-marathons, a few more adventure races, a kayaking trip around the Shetland Islands and ran the Yorkshire 3 Peaks

I have lots of plans for 2012 and I am currently planning, designing and competing in a variety expeditions, adventure races and mini challenges, many of which are easily accessible and can be done on a tight budget and most importantly around my full time job. The next big challenge for 2012 is an off-road mountain bike adventure from one end of Britain to the other - Wild MTB.

Why I set up this site

I am very early in my journey towards experiencing some of the bigger challenges / expeditions that I would love to complete and I hope this site will help me move towards my goals by;

1. Sharing my experiences and the lessons I have learned (both positive and negative)
2. Providing others with ideas for challenges and adventures
3. Learning from others
4. Raising awareness of two great charities

Background

After growing up in the amazing outdoor playground that is the Yorkshire dales, I was educated at Giggleswick School before going on to read Management and Chinese at the University of Nottingham. I have always loved the outdoors but it was whilst at university that I began to get more involved and take a deeper interest in adventure and endurance challenges, entering; ultra marathons, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, rowing marathons and triathlons before completing one of the toughest endurance races on the planet, the Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race.

I have always enjoyed sports and whilst at school played football, rugby, cricket and squash before venturing in to the worlds of rowing, boxing and American Football at university.

I now like to spend my time planning new adventures, climbing, trail running, indoor rowing and cycling. I also enjoy sharing my experiences and lessons with people.

I currently live and work in London but will find any excuse to escape back to the wilderness in pursuit of a new heart hammering, adrenalin pumping adventure.
